Performance

Is a 30 sec load time bad for a web app? It depends.

We often focus too much on the technical metrics and forget that they are just a means to an end - good User Experience.

"Bad" should be framed as "the intensity and frequency of the pain it causes my users".

Scenario A - A casual app that is launched 50 times a day - 30 second load time is BAD.

Scenario B - A business app that is refreshed once a week - 30 second load time is 🤷🏻‍♂️.

When improving an app’s performance, a deep understanding of your users is a prerequisite to the analysis of your measurements.

Understand the most frequent and essential user flows and fix those first.

Performance improvements are not free. Your time should be invested in the most valuable place.
